A — Open Water Exploration Company (OWEC) and Alternate World Expedition and settlers’ slang prefix for Alternate World locations similar to those in home world; a way of making the Alternate World “less foreign.” E.G.: The Alternate St Lawrence River becomes, “…the A-St. Lawrence,” when characters speak of it.
As Alternate World explorers and settlers develop ever-more a unique culture, “OWEC-proprietary-group” slang develops and takes on a life of its own. The first settlement, Alternate Newfoundland City (on Alternate Newfoundland), becomes, “A-Noofie City.”
A-4 Skyhawk – (McDonnell)Douglas Aircraft, aircraft carrier-capable, light attack plane as flown by Lt. Christopher Archer from CVS-50, USS Gettysburg, which as an antisubmarine aircraft carrier maintained a detachment of A-4s for self-defense. C.V. Archer was shot down over (southern, coastal) North Vietnam in “his” A-4, modex number “405” while part of a rescue mission for a downed pilot from another carrier.
Adventure (I), OWECS (Open Water Exploration Company’s Ship) – (incomplete in 1945 at end of WW II) ex Deutsche Kriegsmarine (German Navy during 1939-45 era) heavy cruiser seized in a north German port at the end of WW II, completed by Soviet Union Navy after WW II and declared surplus in 1972. Became flagship of Expedition 2 to the Alternate World in Adventure—Dragons of the Neverland. Cruiser is taken possession of by the O.W.E.C. in the Baltic, by Christopher Archer after purchase by Rodney Stephens, liaising with two arguably sleazy Soviet agents in Berlin. Ship’s new name, Adventure, assigned by Captain Christopher Archer, en route to Melita Island. The ship was found to be in poor condition but was needed immediately (and used) for Expedition 2, painted in available surplus WW II Royal Navy “Mountbatten Pink, Light Shade” paint, mixed with Admiralty White. The cruiser continually experiences structural, mechanical, engineering and electrical malfunctions and is ultimately beached as a “steel fortress” to guard the gold field.
Alternate- — oft-used preface to locations in the Alternate World, as its geography is so similar to our own, except on an inverted globe
Alternate Newfoundland – in the Alternate World, site of the enormous gold deposit open to the surface, where a lead deposit is in the corresponding location in home world, discovered in Adventure—Into The Neverland. Near the gold field becomes site of the first settlement in the Alternate World, begun in Adventure—Empress of the Neverland.
Alternate Newfoundland City – site of the first settlement in the Alternate World, adjacent to the vast gold field in Alternate Newfoundland (in the southern hemisphere of the Alternate World). Becomes known to inhabitants and OWEC personnel as, “A-Noofie City.”
Alternate World, The – discovered during a series of experiments into macro electromagnetic fields; the Alternate World has been described as, “another TV channel” and “the opposite pole of the magnet our reality is in.” Exceptionally similar to our world except for inverted globe, blue chlorophyll-plants, lavender coloured skies and purple – violet seas. Seawater is slightly heavier with more dissolved minerals but less sodium chloride salt. People exist there, though only encountered in small numbers in Expeditions 1 and 2. Their skin hues display a distinct blue-tint. Originally described as “another television station,” it was ultimately determined to be our world’s “macro electromagnetic opposite pole.” First discovered, described and transited to and from in Adventure—Into the Neverland and setting for much of Adventure—Dragons of the Neverland and Adventure—Empress of the Neverland.
Ambrose, Morton, PhD – British-born-raised-educated inventor and builder of the trans-reality Macro Electromagnetic Transfer Apparatus, Dr. Ambrose discovered the Alternate World’s existence while experimenting working in a laboratory in England on intense electromagnetic fields. Ambrose led building , operation and maintenance of the Transfer Apparatus used to transit expeditions, supplies and returns to and from the Alternate World. Dr. Ambrose is employed by Midlands Minerals Ltd, OWEC’s original parent company.
Antipodal location – opposite place on the globe from any named point, determined by an imaginary line through the earth, passing through the exact center. The antipodal location of the Atlantic Ocean just off the southern coast of Portugal is in the south Pacific Ocean. The antipodal location of the North Geographic Pole is the South Geographic Pole.
Macro Electromagnetic Transfers of OWEC ships to the Alternate World from the South Pacific (near Melita Island) “put” the Transferred ships off the coast of Alternate Portugal, the antipodal location in our world, caused by the Alternate World’s being spatially inverted from ours.
